OpenLumi
Reuse old smart-gateway hardware with an open system and local Zigbee services.
Platform / multi-device project · Family openlumi · Reviewed 2026-10-20
What changes for this device
Before
Old Xiaomi or Aqara gateways retain useful hardware such as Zigbee, but vendor software limits their uses.
After
Modifying the system on specified models brings the gateway into locally maintained smart-home services.
The listed DGNWG05LM, mieu01 EU and ZHWG11LM do not imply support for the similarly named DGNWG02LM. An original rootfs backup contains device-specific information; someone else's image cannot replace your backup. The real threshold is not finding a repository but identifying the exact version and preserving irreplaceable device data.
A good fit for
People with an exact supported model who can follow backup, wiring and system-inspection instructions.
Not a good fit for
People identifying models only by the enclosure, lacking original backups, or expecting to reuse someone else's image directly.
Proposed reproduction checks
- Match the label and documentation for model, region and hardware revision.
- Keep an offline copy and check the integrity of this device's backup.
- Verify device joining, control, rebooting and recovery routes.
These hardware checks have not been performed by this catalog.
What you need
- Method
- Replace firmware
- Difficulty (editorial judgment)
- Advanced
- Disassembly
- Method-dependent
- Soldering

- Cloud API / service
- Not required
- Cost amount
- Not priced / UNKNOWN
Possible additional costs
- Check whether the existing device, power supply, storage and connection accessories are sufficient for the exact model.
Prices have not been checked. An open-source license does not make hardware, hosting, electricity or cloud services free.
Risks and recovery
Data-loss risk: Possible; Bricking risk: Possible. Route-based guidance, not hardware-tested; these outcomes are not inevitable for every device.
Keep this device's own rootfs tar.gz backup. Another device's generic backup cannot replace unique device data.
Evidence and maintenance
E1 · Source code & deployment docs
The README limits hardware revisions and includes backup, OTA failure recovery and return-to-stock-firmware sections.
Catalog hands-on testing: not performed. Independent reproduction: not verified.
- Maintenance
- No push for over a year (not proof of abandonment)
- Last GitHub push
- 2025-02-15T11:27:11Z
- Repository license
- UNKNOWN (no verified link)
An unarchived repository or recent push does not prove a model works. Mirror migration does not mean development has stopped.
A root license or README declaration does not establish the same license for firmware, models, brands and third-party components.
