Home Assistant OS
Turn an old mini PC or thin client into a home automation server.

What changes for this device
Before
An idle small x86 computer can still run but lacks a clear, low-maintenance role at home.
After
Home Assistant OS makes it a home automation host, with voice or other extensions added as needed.
The official Generic x86-64 route requires UEFI with Secure Boot disabled, and writing target storage overwrites its data. Documentation distinguishes supported 512n/512e storage from unsupported 4Kn. A 64-bit CPU alone does not establish compatibility. Installing HAOS does not supply local language-model inference capability by itself; assess voice models, accelerators and memory separately.
A good fit for
People with a dedicated x86-64 UEFI mini PC who want to manage existing devices centrally.
Not a good fit for
People needing to keep the original disk system, with legacy BIOS only, or expecting powerful AI compute automatically on a low-spec machine.
Proposed reproduction checks
- Check UEFI, storage sectors and networking.
- Back up the disk; after installation verify repeated successful boots.
- Connect a real device and practice backup export and restoration.
These hardware checks have not been performed by this catalog.

Risks and recovery
Data-loss risk: Expected; Bricking risk: Workflow-dependent. Route-based guidance, not hardware-tested; these outcomes are not inevitable for every device.
Writing the image overwrites the target disk. Save a full disk image first; use original OS installation media for restoration.

An unarchived repository or recent push does not prove a model works. Mirror migration does not mean development has stopped.
A root license or README declaration does not establish the same license for firmware, models, brands and third-party components.
