AI on old speakers: bridging, flashing and board replacement

Decide whether you accept vendor-cloud dependence, disassembly and an external host before choosing a route for your speaker.

Keep original firmware: service bridging

  • XiaoGPT forwards requests to an external model and documents an LX06 configuration. Xiaomi accounts and voice interfaces remain dependencies.
  • Complete one exchange, then stop the bridge and check original functions. This does not establish compatibility with all XiaoAI speakers.

Take over audio: model-specific patched firmware

  • Open-XiaoAI distinguishes LX06 and OH2P, with different disassembly and cables. Do not interchange their images.
  • The repository is archived. Dual-partition rollback depends on the original partition being intact; prepare backups and recovery documentation first.

Reuse enclosure and speaker: replace the motherboard

  • Onju combines a second-generation Nest Mini with a replacement PCB. It is not an app installed on original Google firmware.
  • The original is no longer actively maintained; v2 is a successor in the same family. Earlier demos do not prove all v2 features.
  • For generic Linux hardware, also consider Linux Voice Assistant, checking audio drivers, architecture and Home Assistant services.

Shared acceptance checks

  • Verify audio input, playback, network and model backend separately, then test complete conversations and rebooting.
  • Recognize network/backend failures. Keep the original board or a configuration that can be rolled back.
  • Always-on hosts, PCBs, voice and model services may cost money. Amounts are unknown; this site has no hardware or latency tests.
